An enlarged prostate is not cancer and is most common in men over 50. Enlarged prostate treatment often starts with lifestyle changes and medicines. If these don't help enough, a urologist may suggest a procedure such as TURP or laser surgery. After TURP, most people go home 1 to 4 days later.
Not every hospital offers every option, and not every option suits every prostate. The urologist explains what suits you.
Kidney stones
Discover minimally invasive treatments for kidney and ureteric stones, with options based on stone size, location and complexity. Procedures include RIRS, flexible ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy, mini-PCNL, standard PCNL and ESWL.

Small stones often pass on their own. Larger stones may need shockwave treatment, ureteroscopy with a laser, or PCNL through a small cut in the back. The urologist decides after looking at your scan. You may go home with a small tube (stent) that is removed later, and we make sure you know when and where.
Severe pain with a high temperature or shivering needs urgent medical help where you are. Don't wait to travel.
Bladder & urinary disorders
Explore specialist care for urinary retention, bladder stones, overactive bladder and urinary incontinence using modern diagnostic and treatment techniques. Procedures include cystoscopy, laser bladder stone removal, intradetrusor Botox injections, sacral neuromodulation and sling surgery.

Urinary symptoms can have different causes, so the urologist starts by finding the cause, often with urine tests, a scan or a camera check of the bladder (cystoscopy). Treatment depends on the cause and can range from medicines and bladder training to procedures.
Share your test results with us and we arrange a review by a partner hospital urologist.
Urological cancers
Access specialist treatment for kidney, bladder, prostate and other urinary tract cancers, with treatment plans tailored to the cancer type and stage. Procedures include robotic partial or radical nephrectomy, TURBT, radical cystectomy, robotic prostatectomy and selected kidney-sparing procedures.

Cancer treatment depends on the type and stage of the cancer and is planned by a team of specialists. We send your reports to partner hospital cancer teams so you can compare written treatment plans and quotes before you decide.
Prostate cancer is different from an enlarged prostate, and a raised PSA does not always mean cancer.
Men's health & fertility
Explore specialist evaluation and advanced treatment for male infertility, varicocele, erectile dysfunction and other reproductive health concerns. Procedures include microsurgical varicocele repair, micro-TESE, surgical sperm retrieval, penile implant surgery and vasectomy reversal.

A urologist who specialises in men's health (an andrologist) usually starts with a check-up and tests, such as a semen analysis, before explaining the options.
Everything you share with MedPanda is kept confidential.
Reconstructive urology
Discover specialised surgical solutions for urethral strictures, ureteric problems and complex urinary tract abnormalities. Procedures include urethroplasty, robotic ureteric reconstruction, buccal mucosal graft repair and urinary diversion surgery.

Reconstructive surgery is planned case by case, often after scans and camera tests. Because these operations are complex, the hospital reviews your records before giving a plan and quote, and may ask for more tests in India first.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
How much does urology treatment cost in India?
It depends on the procedure, the hospital and your health. As a guide, indicative starting prices in India (October 2026) are about £1,350 (US$1,800) for TURP, £2,250 (US$3,000) for HoLEP: laser prostate surgery, £1,500 (US$2,000) for kidney stone surgery and £4,900 (US$6,500) for robotic prostatectomy. The hospital sets the final price after reviewing your medical reports. Flights, visa and accommodation are extra.
Is it safe to travel to India for urology surgery?
All surgery carries some risk, wherever it happens, and no hospital can guarantee an outcome. Careful planning helps: the hospital's urologist reviews your reports before you travel, you get a written plan and quote, and you have a check-up before you fly home. Several MedPanda partner hospitals are accredited by NABH, India's national hospital quality board. Talk to your own doctor too before you decide.
Why do people choose India for prostate and kidney stone treatment?
Many people come for prices well below UK private hospitals, English-speaking specialist teams and treatment dates planned around them. The right choice depends on your condition, your budget and how far you can travel, and we talk this through honestly in your free consultation.
What is the treatment for an enlarged prostate?
Treatment often starts with lifestyle changes, then medicines such as alpha blockers or 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. If these don't help enough, a procedure or prostate surgery such as TURP or laser surgery may be offered. Your doctor decides what suits you.
What are the latest treatments for an enlarged prostate, including UroLift and laser surgery?
Besides TURP, options include laser surgery such as HoLEP, steam (water vapour) treatment such as Rezūm, and implants that hold the prostate open, such as UroLift. Not every hospital offers every option, and not every option suits every prostate. Aster Medcity, Kochi lists HoLEP, UroLift and steam therapy on its website. The urologist explains what suits you.
What is TURP surgery?
TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate) removes part of an enlarged prostate through a thin tube passed through the penis, with no cut on the skin. It takes around an hour, under general or spinal anaesthetic, and most people go home 1 to 4 days later.
How soon can I fly home after urology surgery?
Your surgeon decides, after a check-up. It depends on the procedure and how you recover. After TURP, for example, a catheter (a thin tube to drain urine) usually stays in for between one day and one week. Plan to stay in India until your surgeon is happy for you to fly.
How long does recovery take after urology surgery?
It depends on the procedure. After TURP, most people return to normal activities in 2 to 4 weeks. Full healing can take up to 6 weeks, so avoid heavy lifting and hard exercise for about 6 weeks. Your surgeon gives you advice for your own procedure.
How much does private prostate surgery or kidney stone removal cost in the UK?
Published self-pay guide prices (October 2026) include £9,225 for TURP at Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital, and from £2,700 for laser kidney stone removal (ureteroscopy) and from £6,500 for PCNL at Newcastle Hospitals Private Healthcare. Prices vary between hospitals.
Can I compare treatment options and hospital costs before travelling?
Yes. With your consent, we share your reports with partner hospitals, and their urologists suggest a plan and send a written quote. You can compare them with us before you decide, with no obligation.
Do I need a visa to travel to India for treatment?
Yes. Patients from the UK, Ghana and Kenya can apply online for an e-Medical visa, which needs a letter from the Indian hospital. Nigerian passport holders can't use the e-Visa and apply for a regular Medical visa at the High Commission of India in Abuja or the Consulate General of India in Lagos. India also asks travellers arriving from Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya for an original yellow fever certificate, and Nigerian travellers also need a polio certificate. Our Indian medical visa guide explains each step, and we help you with it.
